An extensive extended voyage through Australia is being halted days after the fatal incident of an elderly lady who was abandoned by the vessel on a distant tropical isle.

The passenger had been trekking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but separated from the group for a break. The ship departed without her and came back after some time after the ship staff became aware the woman was missing.

A large-scale hunt found her body the next day.

Authorities are looking into the incident, together with police and the state coroner.

Head of the shipping company stated that travelers and personnel on the ship were informed that the continuation of the journey had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and earlier technical problems".

Via official communication, he mentioned that travelers would be provided a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to organize the travel back of the travelers via chartered flights".

Officials also issued an revised communication, and said they had "delivered a directive to the Captain" preventing any additional guests from getting on the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the ship in Cairns upon its arrival.

The vessel first departed Cairns on 24 October, and was just two days into the expedition at the moment of the 80-year-old's demise. The tropical location was the opening port on the journey.

"Based on limited information we have been told, it looks that there was a failure of responsibility and basic judgment," she mentioned.

She continued that she hoped the investigation would be able to determine what "the company should have performed that might have protected Mother's existence".

"According to reports from the authorities that it was a extremely warm afternoon, and mother fell ill on the hill climb," she explained.

"She was asked her to head down, without accompaniment. Then the boat left, reportedly without conducting a roll call.

"During some point in that process, or not long after, she passed away, by herself."

Organization Reaction

Through an announcement, the CEO affirmed that the organization was "working closely with investigators to support their examination".

He stated that the company was "extremely apologetic that this has happened" and had provided its full support to the loved ones.
